Objective and Summary Your objective is to be the first player to travel a distance of 550. You play Acceleration cards to increase or decrease your speed. The distance you travel depends on your average speed for your turn. You can stop players using one of four Attack cards: (1) Out-of-Gas, (2) Flat Tire, (3) Sharp Turn, and (4) Deer Crossing. If you are attacked, you may need to play one or two Service cards. The deck also contains four Super cards: (1) Super Gas Tank, (2) Super Tires, (3) Super Steering, and (4) Super Radar. These Super cards provide special features to protect you from Attack cards. There is only one of each Super card in the deck. A Double Time card doubles the time of your turn to two or four. 1 - This button controls the flow of the game. You click this button to pick your card or to have the computer players take their turn. The box displays messages about what each player does. 2 - This region is your dashboard. It indicates your position, speed, and status. It will be discussed in more detail later. 3 - These are your cards. When it is time for you to play or discard, buttons appear under the cards. 4 to 6 - These regions are the dashboards for the computer players. 7 - This radar shows the location of the players. 8 - This section shows the data for each player as they take their turn. Dashboard
1 - The speedometer shows your speed. 2 - The odometer shows how far you have travelled. 3 - These warning lights show if you have been attacked or if you have played a Super card. Normally the lights are black. If you were just attacked the warning light is yellow, as it is for the deer light. If you need service, the light is red. If you have played a Super card, a red circle with a slash appears over the symbol as shown for the tire symbol. 4 - This indicator light shows whether or not you need service. As shown, the light is yellow which means that you were just attacked. If the light is red, then you need to play one or two service cards. If the light is green then you are clear and can play any card. 5 - These buttons enable you to speed up or slow down when you play an Acceleration card. Generally you will want to speed up unless you need to slow down to prevent a Deer or Sharp-Turn Attack card from making you crash. You will probably not use these buttons. 6 - These buttons allow you to discard or play a card. Generally the computer will set this for you but you can discard if you want. You will probably not use these buttons. How to Play You start with five cards. Your initial speed is zero and you do not need service. On your turn you pick a card. Your options depend on whether or not you have been attacked or need service. If you have been attacked, your status indicator will be yellow. If you need service, your status indicator will be red. Otherwise, your status indicator will be green. No Attack card on you (Status = Green): If you do not need service and no Attack card has just been played on you, then you may play or discard any card. If you discard, then your acceleration equals zero and the time for your turn equals one. Attack card on you (Status = Yellow): If an Attack card has just been played on you then you can (1) play the relevant Super card, (2) play an Acceleration card to slow down to less than 25 if the Attack card is a Deer Crossing or Sharp Turn, or (3) discard. Service is needed (Status = Red): If you need Service, then you can discard or play any type of card except for an Acceleration and Double Time card. At the end of your turn you calculate your final speed and distance traveled. If you are playing the automatic version, the computer calculates this information for you. Your final speed becomes the initial speed for your next turn. Play continues until all cards have been picked or someone travels a distance of 550. If no one has traveled a distance of 550 after the final card has been picked, then all cards in the discard pile are reshuffled and play continues. If you played a Super card, you keep it throughout the entire game. When playing online, the computer automatically shuffles the cards. |
